Laptop Screen Replacement Dim / Black Display
A black or very dim display may be caused by: 1) A faulty inverter *An inverter is a separate component from the display but works with the display in controlling power to the display. 2) A burned out backlight *A backlight can be either single or multiple CCFLs, or an LED strip 3) Lid/Sleep switch *The lid/sleep switch turns off the display when the lid is closed and the laptop is placed in sleep mode to preserve power. 4) Internal display adapter (video Card) A diagnostic test is necessary to find out which of the above is the cause of display to not perform properly. In some cases, the inverter is the cause of the problem and not a failure of a CCFL backlight as some people assume and replacement of the display is not needed. Cracked Screen A cracked display cannot be repaired and a new display is required to return the laptop to full functionality. Scratches Scratches on LCD and LED's cannot be repaired and a replacement is necessary. Lines If you see lines on your display, it may be caused by failure of either : 1) The internal display adapter (video card) or 2) Components inside of the display In most cases, the LCD/LED display is the cause for lines and removal and replacement of the display is necessary.
